TRANSPORTATION

Virginia, considered the Hub of the Iron Range, has an efficienttransportation1pix.gif (62826 bytes) transportation system.

AIRPORT FACILITIES

Travelers and cargo from the air may arrive at one of the two airports serving the Virginia area.  The Eveleth/Virginia Airport has an impressive facility featuring a large conference room, rental cars, charter aircraft, and much more.  The runway is 4,750 paved feet with lights, REILS and VOR.  The facility offers tie-downs, refueling, including jet fuel.  And just for the fun of it, scenic rides are also offered.

Just twenty miles from Virginia is the Chisholm/Hibbing Airport served by Mesaba Airlines.  In 55 minutes, passengers can be in Minneapolis where connections can be made with all major airlines.  UPS also has daily flights into the Chisholm/Hibbing Airport.

Scheduled commercial passenger airline service is also available in Duluth, sixty miles south of Virginia.

TRUCK LINES

Four interstate regular route, heavy specialized carriers, and freight companies have terminals in the Virginia area.  Delivery times to the major metropolitan centers around the U.S. are only days.  Numerous backhaul opportunities, rates that are now very flexible, along with speedy delivery time makes shipping by truck much more desirable.

RAIL SERVICE

In the Virginia area, rail service is provided by DWP, D.M.I.R., AND BN.  Major connections are with the Canadian National, Chicago and Northwestern, Milwaukee Road, Soo Line and the Minnesota, Dakota and Western Railway.

BUS SERVICE

In Virginia, taxi services are available as well as the local Dial-A-Ride service.  Lorenz Lines offers regular motor coach, passenger and package express service daily to Minneapolis through Hibbing and Grand Rapids.  Arrowhead Transit offers services between the Iron Range cities on a daily or weekly basis.

HIGHWAYS

Arriving in Virginia from any direction is easy.   Virginia is serviced by US Highways 53 and 169, State Highway 135, and we're located just sixty miles from Interstate 35.  Being bisected by these major highways has made Virginia the retail hub of the eastern Iron Range.

PARCEL SERVICE

United Parcel Service is located in the Hoover Industrial area.  Delivery service is also available from many individual courier services.

PORT OF DULUTH

For over 35 years, manufacturing in the Virginia area has taken advantage of the Port of Duluth to ship materials to the great metropolitan areas of the eastern United States as well as areas overseas.

During an average shipping season that usually begins in late March and continues until mid-January, approximately forty million metric tons of industrial cargo and manufactured goods travel through the Port of Duluth.
